Swimming Pool Covers Stockton: Cleaning the Cover Before Opening the Pool

Swimming pool covers in Stockton are designed to protect your swimming pool from debris, conserve water, retain heat, and protect your loved ones from drowning. The benefits can vary depending on the type of pool cover you choose.

While tarp and solar pool covers do not provide the best protection, they do the basic job of blocking out dirt and debris and retaining warmth and sanitizing chemicals in the water. But if you are concerned with the possible accidents such as drowning and other related injuries, a safety pool cover is the best bet.

Most owners are concerned with the cleaning and maintenance of their own swimming pools, how about their pool covers?

Keep in mind that pool covers will be at the peak of their performance if they are regularly maintained and cared. One of the ways of maintaining pool covers is to have them cleaned. Since pool covers constantly take the beating – the heat, cold, dust, soot, snow, fallen debris and changing water levels in the pool – it is not a question why they should be cleaned to keep them in top condition. Here are some of the simple ways on how to clean and maintain your pool cover:

1. If there are leaves, twigs, branches, etc. that are sitting on your dry pool cover, use a leaf blower to clear the center of the pool cover. Then use a brush or broom to clean the sides of the cover.

2. If there is debris on the pool cover and the pool cover is wet, use a hose to clean it. Then use a brush or broom the clean the sides of the cover.

3. You should also check the water levels in your swimming pool. Ideally, the water should reach in middle elevation of the skimmer’s opening. If there is too much water, it can flood the system. If the water level drops below the skimmer level, it will put undue stress on the pool cover, especially when too much debris, rain water or snow accumulate on it. This may damage the pool cover in the end.

4. Check your pool cover regularly for any signs of visible stains. In case of stains, take the pool cover off, scrub the stains off with soap (a hand soap will do) and water, and rinse it thoroughly.

5. In the case of automatic pool covers, you should check its box for accumulated dirt and grime, which may have caused the motors to exert unnecessary effort. Clean the box to get the motor back into functioning properly. This should be done at least once every year.

6. Clean the cover tracks by spraying them with a garden hose (preferably fitted with a high-pressure nozzle). This should be done at least once every year.

7. Check your pool cover for any signs of wear and tear. To know whether your damaged pool cover should be repaired or replaced, check out the article “Replacing an Old Safety Pool Cover in Rancho Cordova.”

8. If you have added sanitizing chemicals to your pool water, do not cover the pool just yet. Instead, leave the pool open first for at least two hours before covering it. These cleaning chemicals are known to be harsh (especially when the concentrations are still strong and potent) and cause eventual damage to the pool cover.

9. Check the motor at least once a year to make sure that the pieces are tight and properly greased.

No matter the type of a pool cover you use for your swimming pool, each deserves good maintenance and care. Even other types, such as automatic pool covers that are made from the most durable materials, also need to be maintained. This is to make sure that swimming pool covers in Stockton are in good shape and in working condition for a long time.
